One game at a time is Andrée Jeglertz’s message ahead of City’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain amid a hectic fixture schedule.

The Blues host PSG on Thursday 29 October at 20:00 (UK), four days after our 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Another tricky tie then beckons on Sunday 1 November, when we face an away clash against London City Lionesses at 12:00.

Jeglertz suggested there will be changes to his starting XI for each fixture as the entire squad is utilised, but the focus is always simply on the next game.

Our Head Coach said: “Just talking about one game at a time, that’s the most important thing.

“We can talk about loading, but it’s about one game. This is what we talked about last year, we want to have games that are challenging us.

“It’s an opportunity for us to see a team starting against United, some others might start tomorrow, and others might start and finish the different games, so we need a whole squad.

“This encourages the players and we only talk about one game at a time.”

City will be without Beth Mead for our PSG showdown, with the England international still recovering from a minor injury.

The forward has been ruled out since the international break, but Jeglertz was boosted by the return of German duo Rebecca Knaak and Syndey Lohmann to his matchday squad against United on Sunday.

Once again, our Head Coach emphasised the crucial role the entire squad will need to play in the coming months as we compete on multiple fronts.

“No, unfortunately not. She isn’t ready yet,” Jeglertz said about Mead’s absence.

“Yes of course [it’s good to have Rebecca and Sydney back].

“We said from the beginning of the year, we need a squad for all games so the more players we have to choose from is better for the team.

Unbeaten in our first seven WSL assignments, City have started our defence of the English crown in strong fashion while also dealing with the fresh demands of a European campaign.

But despite the additional workload on the squad, Jeglertz insists the motivation from his players has never been stronger.

He added: “We still have very much having the same hunger in every game. We are utilising the group and squad more so far this season but they’re still eager to get better from the last game.

“We’re still in this mode of the hunger of winning. It was there last year but now we have more frequency, so the demand of having it three days after rather than seven is a big difference.

“But watching the girls today and yesterday, the confidence is still there so even if you have a draw a couple of days ago, the belief in the team isn’t changing.

“So, [I’ve not learned] new things, just underlining the hunger in the group which I really like.”
