Nicky Weaver says City will go into Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Brighton full of confidence.

Enzo Maresca has already confirmed that five key members of his first team squad will not be involved in the Round Four clash and the possibility for further changes remains until the team is announced.

Having beaten Manchester United to get this far and started the Premier League season in fine form, Brighton will provide a very stern test.

However, Weaver says City’s squad is so deep and multi-talented that fans will be hoping for a victory no matter how many alterations there are.

“Whatever side Enzo picks, it’ll be one that he feels can beat Brighton but he will have one eye on Saturday too because that’s a quick turnaround,” said Weaver.

“It’s a real advantage for us that both games are at home. Do they stay up north after Wednesday?

“I’m sure they will make changes and no one will expect them to win so it’s got all the makings of an interesting game.”

David James agreed with his fellow former City goalkeeper and also said the psychology of facing Brighton twice in a week could be a factor.

“They’re a confident side and you wouldn’t be surprised if they beat a strong side out,” he stated..

“In-game it’s going to be fascinating because they play each other three days later so what can you take from it before the weekend?”

Weaver and James were both speaking as part of our post-match coverage of City’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.

It formed part of Matchday Live, which provides a City-centric view before, during and after every single men’s match throughout the season.
