Andrée Jeglertz preview
The City boss addressed the media on Thursday afternoon and he said he learnt a lot about his side’s fighting spirit in last week’s Champions League draw with Bayern Munich.
“A lot of things,” said Jeglertz when asked what he took from that game.
“Mostly we didn’t start well. If you’re not on your toes, Bayern Munich will punish you and they did. I also learned that we never give up.
“There is a fighting spirit in this group. There is a calmness. They believe in each other and the process and will fight to the end. That’s the learning from the first game.
“It’s different in the Champions League. We are playing a great team with great individuals.
“We have a great squad and we are doing everything we can to get a great performance and result tomorrow.”
Previous meeting
City’s hopes of reaching the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stages were dashed after a 1-0 defeat in August 2022.
Caroline Weir came back to haunt her former club at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano with the only goal of the game early in the first half.
Gareth Taylor’s side rallied with chances falling to Laia Aleixandri, Bunny Shaw and Deyna Castellanos in particular which, on another day, could well have changed the story of the encounter.
But it wasn’t to be, meaning City’s European journey ended in qualification at the hands of the side who also knocked us out of the competition in the previous season.
Last time out
Alex Greenwood’s pinpoint free-kick 10 minutes before half-time proved the difference in South London, the 1-0 win at Charlton providing the perfect preparation for back-to-back home ties with Real Madrid and Arsenal this week.
An entertaining clash also saw Mary Fowler and Gracie Prior go close to a second, but we ultimately had to settle for a one-goal victory.
TV listings
The game is currently available to view in the UK on Disney+.
Should it be broadcast anywhere else around the world, this will be reflected on livesoccertv.com.
