Lauren Hemp says City fought for every single ball as the Blues edged a thrilling WSL clash with Arsenal 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

The England winger grabbed two goals and one assist as Andrée Jeglertz’s side twice came from behind to maintain our 100% start to the league season.

A stunning Kerstin Casparij strike, and late Bunny Shaw effort set the seal on a huge three points for City, who now sit ten points clear of the Gunners.

The Blues had to dig deep to earn that win, and Hemp felt our performance was the perfect demonstration of the WSL champions’ incredible mentality.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Hemp said: “It’s important that we came back, and I think that shows the character of our team, that no matter who we come up against, I feel like we’ll give it our all and in the end we got the job done.

“I think for us it’s about taking each game as it comes and obviously all go away for the international break and after that we’ll come back together and hopefully carry on this start to the season.

“I feel like we fought for every single ball, we are very passionate and obviously got the job done in the end which is great.”

The Blues remain unbeaten in all competitions so far in 2026/27, with two draws in our first two UEFA Women’s Champions League fixtures.

Indeed, City’s latest European tie saw us earn a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid less than three days before our triumph over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite the tired legs, Hemp was delighted to see Andrée Jeglertz’s side get back to winning ways.

She added: “It’s massive for us. Obviously, we’ve had a couple of draws recently which is not our standard and I thought we played really well today.

“We did well to come from behind a couple of times and obviously got the result in the end so credit to this team.

“It was very difficult, they’re a good team. They played some good passes and obviously went forward.”
