Andrée Jeglertz preview
The City boss spoke to the media on Friday and revealed a team news update.
“Unfortunately two players picked up injuries. Laura Wienroither and Iman Beney.”
“They are not available for this week or for their national teams.”
However, there was positive news too as Lauren Hemp returned to full training this week.
Elsewhere, Jeglertz confirmed that Ayaka Yamashita, Rebecca Knaak and Vivianne Miedema are back in contention for the FA Cup final with the trio missing the Barclays Women’s Super League trip to West Ham earlier in May.
Opposing manager: Dario Vidosic
Dario Vidosic has ensured Brighton have had a fantastic end to the season, going on a run of seven games unbeaten across all competitions, as well as having a big say in the title race.
Vidosic looked to have put a dent in Coty’s pursuit of a first WSL title in a decade when they won 3-2 at the end of last month; however, the Seagulls then helped us seal top spot by drawing 1-1 with Arsenal on 6 May.
The former Australian international joined the Seagulls after managing Melbourne City in Australia’s A-League and has led his current side to a seventh-place finish and a cup final in his first full stint as a manager in England.
Previous meeting
It was an afternoon of goals the last time we faced Brighton, with the Seagulls coming out on top, forcing City to wait a bit longer to clinch the WSL title.
Despite Kerolin putting us ahead after five minutes down on the south coast, goals either side of half time from Madison Haley and Kiko Seike saw us fall behind, before the former then added a second just after the hour mark.
Bunny Shaw pulled one back with four minutes of regular time left to play; however, Brighton took home all three points that afternoon.
Last time out
The last time we took to the pitch, we were lifting the WSL trophy for the first time in a decade and received a guard of honour from West Ham.
A first league goal in a City shirt for Jade Rose got us off to a perfect start, before Bunny Shaw doubled our lead in the second half.
The Hammers pulled one back to halve the deficit through Seraina Piubel, but the WSL’s top scorer for a third straight season got her second of the afternoon not long after.
A special afternoon was topped off when our club legend, Laura Coombs, came onto the pitch and scored our final league goal of the season, which will also be her final strike in the WSL as she hangs up her boots after the FA Cup final against Brighton.
