After a tense opening 45 minutes, nothing could separate the WSL champions and WSL 2 title winners.
But City began to turn the screw soon after the restart, and it took just four minutes to find a deserved breakthrough.
Mary Fowler fired home on 49 minutes for the Club’s 1,000th professional goal before Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw flicked home Kerstin Casparij’s corner six minutes later.
Shaw’s second was the pick of the bunch though, scoring from another corner, but this time new Blue and WSL all-time top assister Beth Mead provided the ball to make it three.
A late consolation for the visitors saw Oceane Hurtre pick Jade Rose’s pocket and place the ball around Ayaka Yamashita, but it did little to dampen Jeglertz’s positive assessment of his team’s perseverance and patience after the break.
“It’s more of a mentality,” began Jeglertz when asked what difference he saw in his team between the first and second half.
“It was almost like we were expecting somebody to pass but we would put each other in difficult situations. We were not all the time committed to everything.
We could put a cross in, but it was only Bunny in the box. Where is the eagerness to score?
“So I missed that a little bit in the first half. But it’s also important for the team to have a performance that, I don’t need to tell them, they know that. But also to turn around a do a second half [like that].”
Earlier in the week, Jeglertz spoke about Fowler having the ability to give City an x-factor this season, and she certainly lived up to that in our latest triumph.
“I think Mary is an x-factor,” said Jeglertz whilst pitchside at the Joie.
“As long as she is working around the penalty area she can shoot with right, left foot, finish from different angles.
“She’s very well-rounded. So we are getting something from her and I’m very pleased with that.”
And on City debuts for summer signings Mead and Carlotta Wamser, Jeglertz added:
“Just seeing both of them coming on with the energy they are bringing and they enjoyed to play with the players we have.
“Beth together with Aoba and Bunny Shaw, Yui, Blinky, Sam, there are so many good players around her. She likes that and you see that. So she will contribute to more.
“She needs to learn how they are playing and they need to learn how she is playing and that takes some time but I’m impressed.
“And Carlotta coming in is also great to see. She’s also running up and down in those 30 minutes and really putting energy into the game. She will be a good contribution to the team definitely.”
