Andrée Jeglertz is hopeful that Sam Coffey could be available for selection in Sunday’s WSL clash with London City Lionesses.

The hosts sit third in the WSL table, just three points behind the Blues who remain unbeaten after seven matches this season.

It’ll be a tough assignment for City against an in-form side, but the potential return of US international midfielder Coffey for the first time since our win over Arsenal is a welcome boost the 12:00 (UK) showdown at the Copperjax Community Stadium.

Jeglertz also revealed there were no fresh injury concerns following Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain, which saw Rebecca Knaak make her first appearance of the season.

“We hope Sam can be available for Sunday,” our Head Coach declared, before adding on the shape of the rest of his squad: “No, no new players [to miss out].”

Sunday’s showdown will be City’s third match in the space of seven days, following intense stalemates with Manchester United and PSG.

Our last three-match sequence came back in September when the Blues faced Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Charlton Athletic across eight days, with top scorer Bunny Shaw rested for the final fixture in South London.

Asked whether something similar was planned against London City Lionesses, Jeglertz insisted every player was capable of playing the full 90 minutes on Sunday if called upon.

He added: “I think that every time when you plan a week and have three games, you look how the ideal situation is and how can you offload a player like Bunny for example.

“Of course, there are plans in that but worst-case scenario she managed to play three in a week.

“You have to do that at this level because that’s what they’re built for, they’re professionals and have time to recover.

“It’s different if you have to do it three weeks in a row but I think all our players are capable of playing three in a week for 90 minutes.

“We are always looking to offload them a bit but also, it’s the state of the game.

“If we feel we can’t do it or it’s not the right time, she’ll be ready to pay 90 minutes on Sunday if that’s required and needed.”

City remain unbeaten in all competitions this season but come into Sunday’s showdown having missed out on two statement wins due to late equalisers.

United and PSG snatched a point in the 89th and 88th minute respectively, but our Head Coach insists those late setbacks aren’t cause for concern.

However, he did add that he and the players are working hard to prevent it from happening again.

“If I said it’s a habit, then I’d be in deep problems,” Jeglertz explained.

“It’s happened twice, just looking at how we’ve done the last year and this one, I think we have scored a lot of goals in extra time and at the end of the game.

“So, we have in general been very strong at the end, so just looking at these two, it’s unfortunate and not a good thing but we’ve spoken about it and I’m not concerned.

“But we need to be better in managing the end of the games and maybe we talk about are we on the same page.

“For sure it’s made us think a bit but it’s like that. It’s more unfortunate that it happened two games in a row.”
