A lifelong City fan, the 26-year-old will continue an association with the Club that began as a nine-year-old in our Academy.
Since making his first team debut under Pep Guardiola in 2017, he has gone on to become one of the most decorated players in our history.
In total he has won 20 major honours with City - six Premier League titles, five League Cups, three FA Cups, three Community Shields and a Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
An instinctive attacking talent, Foden has also caught the eye with individual awards including the 2023/24 PFA Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season.
In May 2026, he became just the sixth player to register 100 Premier League goal contributions for City while he’s one of only 20 men to score 100 times for the Club in our 132-year history
Reflecting on his new deal, Foden said he’s living out his childhood dreams representing City.
“Committing my future to City means everything to me,” he said.
“Playing for this Club is all I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.
“It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.
“I can only thank the Club, staff, team-mates and fans who continue to put their faith in me and trust that I give everything I can for City and I hope I’ll be able to repay you for years to come.
“I can’t wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with. To have him back here is exciting.
“Personally, I know I’ve improved so much from working with our coaches and world-class squad and as many of the legends who were here when I first broke through move on, I am excited for the next phase of my career at this great Club.”

“Given Phil joined City at the age of nine, his continued success is one that is celebrated in every corner of our Club from the Academy staff who helped develop him right through to the City fans who have backed him throughout.
“At 26, his development is still ongoing, and we look forward to seeing the player Phil can become over the coming years.”

Local boy, Natural talent
Winning is sweet. Doing so with a boyhood Blue at the heart of things is even sweeter.
It’s hard not to be stirred by photos of the child in the baggy City shirts of the noughties every time Foden’s Stockport heritage is raised.
The proud Academy graduate has known little other than winning ever since moving into senior football in 2017 and there was never a doubt that he would develop into the unique talent we see today.
With enthusiasm abound, Foden has had the best possible education for any young midfielder, with Pep Guardiola as his manager and the likes of David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Rodri all starring for the Blues during his career.
He’s absorbed everything he could from those supreme talents and used it to fashion his own style.
Whether on the wing, behind the main striker or sitting deeper, Foden’s range of passing and eye for goal makes him almost impossible to defend against when he’s on form.
There’s also the air of unpredictably that surrounds him in possession that can only come from a natural skill level and innate creativity.
In other words, a defender’s worst nightmare.
A young talent during our Centurions and Fourmidables campaigns and then a key cog in the Treble season, it was 2023/24 that saw Foden claim the headlines for himself.
Mostly starting centrally, he became the driving force behind our fourth successive Premier League title, scoring 19 times in the league alone.
His control, turn and shot from the edge of the box grew into one of those weapons of elite footballers that simply can’t be stopped, with strikes against Manchester United and then in the final day title clincher against West Ham the standout moments.
He was rightly recognised as the best footballer in England that term, claiming the PFA Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season.
Things have not been as smooth since, but his will to win and passion for City has never wavered.
Neither has support for him from the stands, with the Etihad rising to its feet at the merest glimpse of the No.47.
With a new contract that will see him into his peak years physically, the hope is that Foden can lead a younger generation to fresh glory.
And with a medal haul already the envy of almost everyone to play the game, his status as a City legend is secure.
In the words of the regular chant at the Etihad, he’s one of our own.
