Rulli put pen to paper on a two-year deal this morning, subject to international clearance, and arrives from Ligue One club Marseille.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper comes in with a rich and varied career to date and also a clear understanding of the big connection between City and Argentina as he follows in the footsteps of the likes of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Pablo Zabaleta and current starlet Claudio Echeverri.
Another Argentine ace, Alvarez, an integral member of our Treble-winning and Four-in-a-Row squads of 2022/23 and 2023/24, spoke to Rulli about the opportunity of moving to Manchester and couldn’t have been more positive about the chance to sign for City.
“Last week I spoke to Julian Alvarez also to say to him ‘I have the chance to come here’ and he said to me ‘You will go to one of the best clubs in the world’ so for me it means a lot,” said Rulli.
“It means too much because he spent a lot of years here and I think he won everything and to receive these kind of words from him is really important.
“I know him and I really like him and I feel like when he says that to me, he recommended some places to live, it’s really nice to hear.
“When I started to grow up and I was in Argentina, we grew up looking at Kun Aguero and the famous goal, then also Otamendi, Julian and now Claudio.
“I think when you say Man City you say also Argentina and you say also the big players or stars, so it will be really nice to be part of the Argentinian players playing for Man City.”
Rulli will be straight into it with a City are Back event set for Thursday at the Joie Stadium followed by the Community Shield on Sunday and a Premier League opener against Bournemouth at the Etihad the following Sunday.
Rulli is relishing the chance of being involved as the new season cranks up big-time and has big aspirations for the club.
“I come here to win everything,” he added.
“I know it will be very tough, but at the end we are Man City, we are one of the best teams in the world and we need to try to win everything and that is my goal here.”
