TEAM NEWS
New signings Abdukodir Khusanov and Omar Marmoush are both handed immediate City debut with fellow arrival Vitor Reis named on the bench for Saturday’s Premier League home clash with Chelsea.
From the side that began last Wednesday’s Champions League clash away to Paris Saint-Germain, manager Pep Guardiola makes three changes all told.
Khusanov, who joined us from Lens, and striker Marmoush, who arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt, both on a four-and half-year deal, each go straight into the starting line-up for their competitive City debuts.
Meanwhile full-back Reis, who signed from Brazilian side Palmeiras – also on a four-and half-year deal – starts on the bench.
Ilkay Gundogan also comes into the starting line-up with Kevin De Bruyne and Savinho reverting to the bench.
Ruben Dias, who also started in Paris, is ruled out through injury as are Jeremy Doku and Nathan Ake.
Rodri is still unavailable as he continues his recovery from long term injury.
Oscar Bobb also sits out today as he continues to build up match fitness after being out since last August with a leg injury.
Teams
CITY XI: Ederson, Nunes, Khusanov, Akanji, Gvardiol, Kovacic, Gundogan, Bernardo (C), Marmoush, Foden, Haaland
Subs: Ortega, Stones, Grealish, De Bruyne, Reis, Savio, O’Reilly, Lewis, McAtee
CHELSEA: Sanchez, James (c), Colwill, Chalobah, Cucurella, Fernandez, Caicedo, Palmer, Madueke, Sancho, Jackson
Subs: Jorgensen, Disasi, Tosin, Neto, Nkunku, Dewsbury-Hall, Gusto, Acheampong, Guiu
PREVIOUS MEETING
Our last home encounter in the league against Chelsea came back in February 2024, where Rodrigo’s spectacular late strike ensured City drew 1-1 in what was a pulsating and eventful game.
Raheem Sterling put the visitors ahead, but Guardiola’s side showed we can marry character with class as Rodrigo rifled home that deserved leveller seven minutes from time.
In the reverse fixture earlier this season, we emerged 2-0 victors at Stamford Bridge in the opening match of the league campaign, with Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic grabbing the goals.
LAST TIME OUT
Our last league game saw us level our Club record away victory, beating Ipswich Town 6-0 at Portman Road.
We were also in UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday evening, where goals from Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland had us in control, but Paris Saint-Germain fought back with goals from Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola, Joao Neves and Goncalo Ramos to take the three points at Parc des Princes.
As for Enzo Maresca’s side, they overcame Wolves 3-1 at home in the league last weekend and had no European fixture in midweek.
