Enzo Maresca handed Champions League debuts to Floyd Samba and Allan as we raced into the lead inside 12 minutes at the Etihad Stadium.
Enzo Fernández saw his free-kick clip the crossbar and action-man Elliot Anderson was quickest to react to the loose ball, poking in his first goal for City since joining in the summer transfer window.
Shortly after the half-hour mark we extended our lead through Foden, who combined superbly with fellow Academy graduate Rico Lewis down the right flank, before firing into the roof of the net for his second goal in four days.
Seven minutes after the break, the visitors got back into the game after a low finish from Stavros Pilios, but five minutes later, Rayan Cherki curled us back into a two-goal advantage, cleverly chopping onto his left foot from Foden’s pass and stroking into the bottom left corner expertly.
The Englishman then turned from provider to scorer for the second time of the evening, linking up superbly with Lewis again before finding the top left corner with power and precision.
And with 14 minutes of normal time left to play, Foden completed his fourth hat-trick for City and first in the Champions League, tapping into an empty net from Ryan McAidoo’s inviting cross.
The victory means we now have two wins and one loss from our opening three League Phase fixtures.
