Looking to maintain our 100% record in the opening weeks of 2026/27, skipper Alex Greenwood produced a moment of first-half magic to help the Blues secure another important win. 

An organised newly promoted Charlton side, in search of their first points of the season, made it difficult for City to find the breakthrough, with Eartha Cumings also tested by Jodie Hutton in the early exchanges.

But, on 36 minutes, the title holders broke the deadlock when Greenwood curled a sumptuous free-kick into the bottom-right corner from the edge of the Charlton box. 

Mary Fowler, Gracie Prior and Bunny Shaw all came close to doubling our lead. 

However, despite dominating possession only one goal was needed to secure three points and our first clean sheet of the campaign.
