Wednesday night’s 4-2 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain leaves us 25th in the 36-team table, with eight points from seven matches so far.
It means that we need to beat Club Brugge at the Etihad Stadium next week in order to progress to the play-off round that will see sides compete to progress to the Round of 16.
City took the lead in the French capital, with Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland scoring early in the second half before PSG responded emphatically to turn the tie on its head.
Speaking after the match, Guardiola insisted that he and his players cannot bemoan our current position and that we must be ready for the upcoming challenge.
“It’s the points we have,” he began.
“If I analyse game by game, today we don’t deserve it and other games maybe we deserve it. But it is what it is.
“What is the argument to say it is unfair?
“Always for PSG I saw the games that they play well but could not win. Today they were able to do it.
“They were better and I congratulate them. You play a game and sometimes they are better. We have to accept it. Now it’s to recover, learn from that.”
“Still we are in this position. I said to the players to recover and go to Chelsea and then after the Champions League to try to qualify. We have to recover our game and that is what we have to do.”
