Having lost the Community Shield a week before, the Blues trailed 0-1 to Bournemouth with 84 minutes played at the Etihad before goals from Marc Guéhi and Joško Gvardiol changed a negative situation into a positive.
Including our win over the Cherries, City have won six games in succession ahead of Sunderland’s visit to the Etihad this Sunday (14:00 kick-off, UK).
Maresca observed: “I think they have been more or less all different wins.
“[Against] Bournemouth, we kept fighting until the end. And then Palace away, I think, was a very good performance on the ball and off the ball. We were very good.
“!And I think it’s always wins [that] help you to become a better team. But for sure, the Bournemouth game, the way we won that game, has been very important.”
It’s hard to imagine a much better start for Maresca, with City joint top of the Premier League, winning our opening league phase Champions League clash away to Porto and progressing to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.
Asked if he was enjoying life as City boss, he said, “I’m really happy, but I said this in the first press conference, if I remember, because for me to be in this club is a privilege.
“And to be in this club after a legend like Pep, it’s a privilege. I know that if I don’t win, it’s a disaster. I know it’s normal. It’s my job. I don’t spend my day by day thinking who was here before, for how many years, what the club achieved.
“ I merely just focus on what we can do better, improve the team and try to win games.”
