Enzo Maresca has backed newly-promoted Coventry City to impress in the Premier League despite a difficult start.

The Sky Blues were promoted in first spot in the Championship last season, 11 points ahead of second place Ipswich.

Led by former City player Frank Lampard, it marked a first return to the big league in 25 years for the East Midlands outfit.

They’ve had a difficult beginning, losing 3-0 away at Arsenal and 1-0 at home to Hull.

Despite that, Maresca expects Lampard’s men to put up a fight this coming campaign.

“I think it’s a normal situation when you get promoted,” he said of their start.

“You can see clearly the way they want to play and I watched some of the games with Lampard at Everton and Chelsea.

“It’s a team that struggle because of the Premier League but no doubt they are going to do a good job.”

On boss Lampard, Enzo added: “He did a fantastic job last season and he’s going to do a good job this season.

“I can see clearly what they want to do on and off the ball.”
