The England international moved to Manchester earlier in the summer after a stellar campaign at the City Ground, playing every single Premier League game and running further than anyone else.
He also starred at this summer’s World Cup, helping England to the semi-finals in a typically selfless and assured manner at the heart of midfield.
Maresca says the 23-year-old is just as impressive off the pitch as he is on it.
“When we make a decision it’s not just about how they are as a player – which for sure is important – but we also look at the behaviour,” he said in a wide-ranging interview with City Studios in Seoul.
“The person, the human being and Elliot has all these things.
“He’s a fantastic player, a nice guy, humble, polite and it will be a pleasure for me to work with him.”
