It was a difficult evening for Enzo Maresca’s men with Forest putting down a marker in the first half with two goals.
Joško Gvardiol was dispossessed by the onrushing Jair Cunha, the Brazilian centre-half racing through to fire home the opener for the Tricky Trees.
That gave a real lift to the home fans and it was to get better before the break for the hosts.
Xaver Schlager won the ball from Elliot Anderson and the Austrian midfielder played it into Liam Delap who made no mistake with a clinical finish to send the City Ground into dreamland.
Enzo Fernandez put a header over and Erling Haaland had a shot cleared off the line before the half-time whistle blew as the visitors chased a way into the game.
It came via Rayan Cherki who pulled one back after the break with a sensational half volley.
The visitors pushed and pushed and created numerous half-chances but it was the hosts who got the decisive goal against the run of play.
Morgan Gibbs-White raced forward and played in Delap, the former Academy graduate smashing home to earn the victory.
The result means we’re second in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Arsenal, as we head into the international break.
